…and happy hunting as another firearm deer season is underway thanks to the powers that be who felt like it would be a good idea to move up the start date. Now instead of the 1st Monday after Thanksgiving it’s the 1st Saturday after Thanksgiving. Some like it some don’t but you get that with change. Either way I hope hunters get the dumb ones first. They’re the ones that wait until I’m driving at 4 in the morning and decide it would be a good idea to slam into me. I see the ones that just stand there in the middle of the highway wondering what I’m doing invading their space. They’re a whole other breed. Some of them will be standing on the side of the road until you’re just about to approach and then decide to walk in front of you. I can’t imagine being in a big truck when they do that, and they disappear right in front of the hood of the truck. You’re waiting till they come into view but don’t. It’s the ones I don’t see that bother me. They come out of the woods, full speed like they got a buck on their tail, and you know what they usually do. And before you have a chance to react; it slams right into the fender or driver’s door or passenger side fender. I’ve been fortunate enough to have 3 do that to me 2 within a month; one I know for sure didn’t leave the scene of the accident. I remember years ago driving out of the Squirrel Hill tunnel toward Edgewood Swissvale when a car in front of mine hit one head on. But thanks to the front end of his car being low to the ground he more or less scooped the deer up off the highway. It rolled over the top of his car and landed in front of mine. Before I even had a chance to hit the brakes the deer popped up from the highway jumped over the Jersey barrier on to the other side and into the woods. So yeah, if you’re out hunting this season, I hope you bag the dumb ones first before they bag me.
