It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I finally got frustrated enough after reading yet another on line post only to get road blocked by yet another abbreviation to find out how OMG become a thing? IDK but IDR and will BRB with the answer. Ok I’ll tell you now. There’s a web site called Net Lingo that can help define there meaning. Did you know that LOL was first recorded in the early 1980’s when it appeared in a Usenet post by Wayne Person and meant Lot’s of Love? . He wrote: “A friend of mine’s mother uses LOL to mean ‘Lots of Love’. She once sent him an email saying ‘Your grandmother has just died. LOL. Pearson later explained that he was joking and that his friend’s mother never actually wrote that. However, the story became viral and LOL became a popular way to indicate humor online. IDK: I Don’t Know was first recorded in the late 1990s, when it appeared in an online chat between two teenagers. One of them asked: “What are you doing tonight?” The other replied: “IDK. My bff Jill.” The first one then asked: “What does IDK mean?” The second one answered: “I don’t know.” The first one then said: “OMG, nobody knows!” This exchange was later posted on the website called NetLingo, where it became a popular example of internet slang. WTF: What The F*** that’s used to express shock, disbelief, anger, or confusion was first recorded in the early 1980s, when it appeared in a Usenet post by Jay Fields. He wrote: “WTF? Who are you?” Fields later explained that he was responding to a random message from someone he didn’t know. He said that he used WTF as a shorthand for “What the f***?” because he didn’t want to type the whole word. However, some people interpreted WTF as “Wow, that’s fantastic!” or “Why the face?” Fields then clarified that he meant it as an expression of surprise and annoyance. There so many words now with their own stories and meanings. Some of them are easy to understand, while others are more obscure or ambiguous. Some of them are funny, while others are rude or offensive. Some of them are universal, while others are specific to certain cultures or communities. The next time you use an abbreviation online, think about how it came to be and what it really means. You might be surprised by what you discover or not. LOL!
